August golf

I played 9 holes in the morning before work today for the first time in a long-time. First, my golf game is finally getting decent again and I’m much more comfortable over the ball again. That obviously makes things a lot more fun.

Equally as important, it was really nice to get out and do something different in my day to day routine. I’m a creature of habit, and sometimes I fall in the trap of just doing the same thing every day. Wake-up, take Colin to daycare, workout, work, cook dinner, watch TV, and sleep. Even as new parents, we need some excitement in our lives and an occasional round of golf on a Wednesday was great.

On the work front, I was reading that OpenAI only grew 18% last quarter compared to Anthropic more than doubling their revenue. While OpenAI focused on getting to the consumers and chasing everything such as video production, Anthropic just stayed focuses on getting to all businesses. They’re paying for that strategic decision today as Altman continues to reshuffle leadership amidst an exodus of top talent.

It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here. Does Anthropic continue their dominance in the world or do things level out as the cost of AI continues to rise? It feels like it’s all rainbows ahead for Anthropic, but unfortunately that’s not how the business world works and the road likely is a bit bumpier than most optimistic people think.
