Austria wrap-up and thoughts

I had a great week in Austria skiing with the Secfi team.

It some ways it was a reward trip for the entire company who worked their asses off last year. We hadn’t had a company trip since 2021 and we still have many of the team who have stuck with us since that time.

I like to think of it as a bonding trip though. There is nothing like having a connection in-person even if you Zoom nearly every day. Our team is mostly in our Amsterdam and New York offices at this point, but we do still have people remote. We unfortunately do not get the chance to get together much so any chance we get to see each other in-person is incredibly valuable.

Overall, we had a ton of fun and got to know each other a lot better. The company always feels a lot closer after these trips and I’m already excited for the next trip.

On a personal level, I’m feeling quite old and my body is still hurting. I pushed things too hard on day one and my legs started cramping in the afternoon. I never really fully recovered and every day after that on the slopes was a bit of struggle. Part of it was breaking in new boots, but undoubtedly my body really fell apart on the mountain.

For better or worse, it might be time to start getting physical therapy this year. I’ve been dealing with sore and tight muscles and my ligaments have been starting to get more tender. I work out almost religiously 4 times a week and I like to think I treat my body fairly well, but I know my muscles are tighter than the average person and most don’t deal with the aches and pains that I do.

I’ll be 36 in less than two months and this last trip to the slopes was definitely a wake-up call for me. Major injury is not out of the question at the pace I’m going whether that’s from something like snowboarding or just doing something casual everyday like running.
