What a time to be alive
My wife’s parents love to talk about how life was in the 50s in America. I don’t blame them as I love to talk about how great growing up in the 90s were in America. Simply put, I think we all long for the simpler times in life… like when we were kids with no responsibilities and the outside world events didn’t matter much.
Ignorance is bliss of course. My in-laws quickly forget that there was still Jim Crow laws and racial segregation. There was large scale war in Korea just years after the end of World War II. And of course, the Cold War was raging on. Perhaps not having the internet and the news of the world at your fingertips did help with the ignorance part.
As we start to head into the thick of 2026, we’re dealing with a lot in the world. America has been sending military assets to the Middle East to potentially strike Iran, and they are beginning to prepare for war. The country remains divided and politics are getting nastier. There are legitimate fears of AI taking over and the markets have been reacting.
I choose to remain optimistic about where we sit right now.
It can be easy to be negative about the world right now. But unfortunately, you probably can say that about every time period during America’s history.
AI advancements can be scary. And perhaps even my own job will be eliminated when time comes. But new jobs will be created and I do believe our lives will be a net positive from this AI boom.
It’s a great time to be alive in America.
